Humankind Darlington Young Carers’ service has been named overall winner in the Exceptional Care category at the recent Best Of Darlington Awards .
Darlington mayor Nick Wallis presented a trophy to Lead practitioner Cheryl Hunter, Gemma Evans, Jeanette Marley and Linda O’Neill at the annual event, held at the town’s Dolphin Centre.
Cheryl said: “This award highlights how much young carers and their families in Darlington are benefiting from the Young Carers service and how vital the service is.”
“The Mayor of Darlington was very interested in the service and said he would like to have further conversations with the team about our work.
Cheryl said the service works hard to ensure that all Young Carers have the opportunity to realise their full potential and have the same opportunities as their peers reducing risk of isolation.
Project Manager, Emma Crawford-Moore, said: “We are delighted to accept this award on behalf of not only our team, but in recognition of Humankind’s work as a charity and all the Young Carers on service.
“We are very proud to have the team’s hard work and commitment rewarded. Hopefully, this award will go some way to raising the profile of Young Carers in Darlington and to ensure services continue to be provided to them.”
