Christmas Party fun for Darlington Young Carers, aged from seven to 12

Our Humankind Darlington Young Carers' Christmas Party provided a treat for fourteen young people who have to juggle care responsibilities for relatives with their ordinary life and education.

This year's party was enhanced by a £100 donation from the ABC parent and toddler group at St Andrew's church in Haughton-le-Skerne to help bring some Christmas cheer to the youngsters.

Cheryl Hunter, Senior Practitioner at the project, said: "The young carers who came along were aged between seven and 11 or 12 and seemed to have a great time. They enjoyed craft-making, games, pizza and Christmas films.

Addressing the children, she said: "We'd like to thank all of you - it was a pleasure to have you all there enjoying some respite and seeing the fab things you created which we hope are pride of place as part of your decorations!

"All the team would like to wish all of our Young Carers and their Families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we are looking forward to seeing you in 2019."

Cheryl was keen to thank the ABC club for the donations to the party which bought craft materials for the children to make Christmas baubles, paint stones, decorate biscuits and create LED Christmas trees. The party was held at the Havelock Community Centre in Darlington.
